Our Contributions to the community
The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store has contributed to multiple projects within the Wadeye Community. Some of these included construction of houses dating from 1988 to 1994. The store averaged the building of 2 houses per calendar year. All constructions were contracted to Kardu Numida Inc. Store funded housing ended with 2 x duplexes at an average cost of $300,000.00 per duplex. A total of approx $3.6 million dollars was spent on housing in this period. Whilst this construction project was in place we the committee agreed that the old supermarket needed to be completely upgraded. The new supermarket would take place beside the old which is now what you see as the furniture and electrical's shop. This store would include larger fridges and freezers, a clothing & variety shop and more warehouse space. Completely self funded, the construction was completed sometime late in 1990 at an approx cost of $500,000.00 in total. Since this upgrade a further $750,000 of the store funds was spent extending the store to the size it now stands. A federal government fund of $750,000.00 was also granted to pay the balance of these costs. 5 months later all fridges and freezers in the warehouse needed replacing due to deterioration so a further $225,000 was spent to replace those. Enter the modern age, new cash registers and stock managing programs were installed at another great cost $125,000.00 in total with an average update every 10 years at an average cost of $52000.00 due to the Federal Government's income management scheme. Whilst all this construction was in place we had to remember the people of the Wadeye community. Donations for Funerals, charters, airfares to southern states for patients and their escort, Food baskets, Station vehicles, School projects, Health clinic machinery and baby programs, Church expenses & various sporting projects were also greatly funded by the store. Even the now defunct social club received funding when it was in operation.

“People come and go within the community, but the questions are always the same.
Why is the store so expensive?
Apart from freight costs, power and water costs, stock purchasing, wages, rent, theft, destruction from breaking & entering and construction of building extensions - now you can see that we also give a lot back to the community in aid. It is the corporations Directors decision to have the store prices slightly higher than average to help with these donations.
To reduce our costs would stop all contributions to food baskets, donations, funerals costs, patient escort travel costs, community projects and sponsorship's.
We do not receive any form of Government subsidies for freight, stock or even power & water. Only 1 grant was applied and given, this was for the store upgrade stage 2.
Without Murinbata Tribal Development and the Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store, "none of this would have been possible”
