Our Health & Nutrition Policy

Aim

To provide the people of Wadeye access to a variety of healthier food and drink choices, low fat and sugar free alternatives, at reasonable prices consistently and to also promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices.

Objectives .1

Fruit and Vegetables

A. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store will maintain a constant and plentiful supply of fresh fruit and vegetables based on availability from suppliers.

B. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store will sell both individual and fresh pre-packed fruits & vegetables.  

C. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store will maintain adequate levels of supplies of frozen and canned fruit and vegetables and dried fruits at all times.

Other Healthy Products

A. High range of baby food products including 3 age ranges of formula, canned and jar baby food including fruits, custards meats and vegetables. Baby farex/cereal range also provided.

B. 2-3 types low fat dry biscuits (e.g. Cruskits, Saladas & Rice Crackers)

C. Specialty breads will be a constant provision which include Wholemeal, multigrain and Pumpkin Seed.

D. Wholegrain cereals such as Weetbix, Oats, All Bran, Sultana Bran and Muesli

E. Dairy choices include a range of reduced fat or low fat milk, yoghurt and cheese also soy milk for lactose intolerance.

F. Provision of artificial sweeteners both in tablet form and boxed powder form.

G. A range of diet drinks, diet cordials, bottled water 1ltr and 600ml and 100% fruit Juices.

H. Monounsaturated or polyunsaturated oils and spreads such as Canola Oil or Olive Oil

Objectives .2

Limiting products contributing to unhealthy eating & drinking

A. The majority of sweets are sold in an area above children’s eye level’s and away from registers.

B. High sugar based Soft Drinks , Cereals, biscuits, milk, cheese, bread, lollies, chips, biscuits, cordials, spreads of the high fat content are sold significantly dearer than the healthier options.

C. Supplier specials are passed onto customers ONLY if they are of a healthy option.

D. Fruit and Vegetables are sold to our customers at 30%  markup from Darwin supplier.

E. Baby foods and Formulas – all ranges are sold to customers with 10%  markup.

F. All bottled water is sold at a minimal margin markup.

Objectives .3

Contributing to the Community through health & nutrition

A. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store has and always will continue to provide support through donations or sponsorship's to school sporting events. This includes but not limited to travel, accommodation and award programs.

B. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store has and always will continue to provide support to the Local Health Clinic through their baby health program. We will provide food and clothing for those babies in poorly health.

C. The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store has and always will continue to aid those in need of food through food hampers. This does not include soft drinks, chips, lollies, ice cream or cigarettes.

D.The Murrinhpatha Nimmipa Store has and always will continue to guide people to try healthier alternatives through visual as well as vocal support.
